The XIX international conference “Trends in Education Development”, which this year is dedicated to the subject of “Law and Freedom in Education”, will be held online in MSSES on 17-19 March. The conference attendees will discuss issues related to both academic freedoms in universities and the freedom in personalisation of education in schools and supporting kids’ proactive behaviour in kindergartens. The conference programme has been published on the MSSES website. The list of speakers includes education researchers and practitioners from various Russian regions as well as the USA, Italy, the UK, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Croatia, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Moldova.

The theme of the conference was suggested by the academician of the Russian Academy of Education (RAE) and former Professor at the MSSES Faculty of Education Management Oleg Lebedev who will give a speech on “Regulation and Freedom in the General Education System: the Measure Problem” at the conference on 19 March.

The conference will be opened with the plenary meeting “Free School for Free Society” that will include a speech from Shalva Amonashvili – an educator who has changed the distance between teachers and students and who has taught the teachers to see different personalities in their students.

The conference will traditionally be attended by an educator and education leader Sir Michael Barber, author of numerous education reforms in England, USA, Pakistan as well as the co-author of various projects in Russia. He will give a talk on “Variety of Opportunities and the Future of Universities”.

Yet another long-awaited guest of the conference is John McGovern who is well remembered by both English teachers in Russia and the university staffers. He has made great contributions to the development of numerous joint university programmes, including those in MSSES. Conference participants and attendees will get to hear McGovern’s talk “From the Academia to an Algorithm: Evolution of Higher Education”.

A few representatives of the International Network of Education Policy Centres will give a speech at the conference as well. Among them are the director of the Network’s headquarters Lana Jurko (Croatia), Batuhan Aydagül (Turkey) who is currently studying for his PhD in the USA, Ulviyya Mikayilova (Azerbaijan), and Alisha Taylor (New York) who has been consulting and assisting in developing the Network for many years.

Moreover, the conference will also be attended by the new Director of the HSE Institute of Education Evgeny Terentyev, the Faculty’s old friend Isaka Frumin, graduate of the Faculty of Education Management, Rector of the Moscow City University Igor Remorenko, and academician Alexander Asmolov.

Alexandra Sidorkina, Professor at the California State University, will give a speech on the difference between education and business. Konstantin Ushakov will talk about the curatorial technique for working with teachers. Academician Viktor Bolotov will describe how the trust-control balance changes in our education system, and the HSE University Professor Katerina Polivanova will share the results of her research on kids’ welfare in school.

The Faculty’s long-term partners from the University of Manchester Stephen Rayner, Sarah Bibi, and Jen Barker will talk about how one can ensure the welfare of not only the children but also the teachers.
