Cultural Management (МА) is a Russian-British Master Degree program, which blends profound theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. This Program helps to create social and cultural projects aimed at ensuring sustainable development of society.
Ekaterina Kalachikova, Head of the Program

The Program prepares:

  • visionaries and strategists of social and cultural design,
  • initiators, creators, and members of creative teams and startups,
  • employees and leaders of public cultural institutions.
Over 80% of students start their culture-oriented careers successfully already during their studies.
The MSSES residents have created a new profession, namely, a culture manager.

Previously Russian intellectuals were engaged in general culture-related issues, while managers supervised everything at all. No one would ever think that culture can and should be managed, and to do so you need professional skills.

Now this profession is in great demand. And almost anyone who has achieved something meaningful in this profession is a Shaninka alumnus.

When I entered Shaninka, I had a Ph.D. degree and two higher educations; my colleagues did not really understand my passion for studying at the Faculty of Sociocultural Design, but this fact did not stop me.

The faculty (and Shaninka itself) is not only an educational institution as such; it is a powerful community of experts and practitioners who are directly engaged in the development and launch of many programs related to the social and cultural development of territories. Thus, as a student, I had an opportunity both to gain some new knowledge and also take part in real design practices. Already during my studies, I was able to raise my expert status, and, plainly, started to earn more by being involved in various projects.
