The NUR festival team is launching an online course on festival management for the students of MSSES undergraduate programme “Creative Projects Management”

  • 21.03.2022
The course is intended for the third-year students of the “Creative Projects Management” undergraduate programme. It focuses on the development and organisation of festivals.

Founders and curators of the NUR festival have launched the course for students who are interested in art-related projects and producing and those who would like to develop the skills required for organising projects in creative industries. The students will be introduced to the brief history of organising world festivals, the main stages of project management and festival concept development, from forming a team and seeking state and commercial support to PR strategies for festival promotion.

Throughout the course, the students will be learning all about:
  • history of the festival movement
  • project methodology and practical tools required for the development and organisation of a festival
  • HR competencies for forming a project team at various stages of festival development
  • methodology for planning, coordinating, and managing the processes during festival development and organisation
  • communication basics for filling the festival programme
  • basic types of the advertising promotion of major events
  • ways of finding financial, organisational, informational, and administrative support

Festival management is a course that can and must be as practice-oriented as possible. That is why this course is conducted in partnership. Founders and curators of the NUR festival will convey their experience to the students of the “Creative Projects Management” programme with references to the international and historical context of festival creation, which they are all deeply immersed into. I know for a fact that this course is relevant for our students who by now are not just interested in the festival movement but are becoming a part of it. That is why I am happy to present them with guides as wonderful as my colleagues from NUR.
Olga Remnyova, “Creative Projects Management” programme manager
The NUR team based the course on their own experience gained from making and holding the International Media Art Festival NUR. The course teachers subscribe only to the practice-oriented approach when conveying their knowledge and skills, and such an approach requires continuous action and generating new ideas.

Throughout the course, the students will be developing their festival concepts and they will eventually create an extensive idea for a project ready to be implemented.
Our team has a principle that we incorporate into our work: “We take care of the process and the process takes care of the outcome”. Through the course, we will pass that principle to the students along with plenty of living knowledge.
Didar Orazov, Executive Director of the International Media Art Festival NUR
The course organisers are willing to consider applications for participation from three students studying on other MSSES programmes if they can motivate their desire to study the technology for producing and organising festival projects.

Course teachers:

Rashid Osmanov – Founder and Curator of the International Media Art Festival NUR, Founder and Head of the Formate concept studio
