Alexander Abashkin has a great deal of experience working on a variety of projects related to international education, US-Russia academic relations, Russian studies. Has a proven track record of success in implementing initiatives and projects to develop international collaboration in higher education, innovative programs for foreign and Russian students.

KEY CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Co-founded Stanford University Program in Moscow (1993), served as the Program’s Deputy Director (1993-2004) and then as Program Director (2005-2014). Stanford program in Moscow was one of 11 other programs around the world where Bing Overseas Studies delivers education to Stanford-only students interested in studying abroad. 
  • Founded and managed RANEPA’s International Summer School (2005-2014) which offers courses in Contemporary Russian Studies, The Russian language and academic internships to students from many US Universities (Stanford, Harvard, SUNY, Georgia Tech, University of Pennsylvania, BYU, University of Southern California). This Summer School was the single largest destination in Russia for US students.
  • Founded and supervised RANEPA’s English-language Masters’ program (2010-2014), the firstMaster’s program in Russia for local and international students studying management whichis taught fully in English. Promoted the program internationally to help attract students frommore than 20 countries, including US, Canada, France, India, Macedonia, Bulgaria, FSU countries.
  • Co-founded and served as Executive Director for RANEPA’s “Preparing Global Leaders Summit” (PGLS), a premiere international educational program for best young professionals (2012). The program seeks to prepare aspiring global scholar-leaders with the tools that are necessary for effective leadership in an increasingly complex world. In the last three years the program was attended by young leaders from about 80 countries.
  • Supervised international research labs established at RANEPA to develop joint research projects with acclaimed foreign scholars. 
  • Consulted Russian and US universities on international collaboration projects
