The Faculty of Sociology and Political Science combines Russian intellectual traditions with the diversity of Western sociological theories and research methods. The character and level of teaching at the Faculty corresponds to international standards of postgraduate professional training and professional development of specialists in various areas of theoretical and applied sociology.
On successful completion of the programme, students are awarded a Master of Arts in Sociology of the University of Manchester and The Russian state Diploma in Professional retraining or Russian Postgraduate State diploma.
The Faculty puts emphasis on the application of new methods of teaching. Although students are offered traditional lectures and seminars, the focus is on learning through participation in conferences with research papers or cases, through learning visits to regions, through participating in teachers’ research projects, etc.
At the moment we are also reviewing the programme of political science, which will be redeveloped to include new courses on relations with government agencies and international politics.
