unnamed (2).jpg12 декабря в 18:30 в  библиотеке Шанинки состоится вторая встреча  киноклуба. На заседании будет показан фильм The Act of Killing. Фильм демонстрируется на английском языке с английскими субтитрами.

In this chilling and inventive documentary, executive produced by Errol Morris (The Fog Of War) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), the filmmakers examine a country where death squad leaders are celebrated as heroes, challenging them to reenact their real-life mass-killings in the style of the American movies they love. The hallucinatory result is a cinematic fever dream, an unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass-murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit. Shaking audiences at the 2012 Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals and winning an Audience Award at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival, THE ACT OF KILLING is an unprecedented film that, according to The Los Angeles Times, "could well change how you view the documentary form." - Official website

Why is "The Act of Killing" an important film?

Joshua Oppenheimer's critically acclaimed documentary is a daring observation of ultraviolence unconstrained by taboo: the death squad leaders who directly and indirectly murdered, tortured, raped hundreds of thousands of people during the Indonesian Killings of 1965-1966 have hitherto avoided societal judgment: they have friends in high places, get invited to talk shows and glorify themselves during self-organized public events.

Oppenheimer approached the most notorious gangsters under the guise of letting them direct a movie about their former days of glory; they could use props and costumes of their choosing, they were granted a significant freedom of expression. While the mass murderers try to find a narrative of their past, the camera lingers on the moments of self-reflection, doubt and empathy with their victims. We see a slice of their own way of dealing with their past. Oppenheimer creates different settings for reflection: in one scene, the head torturer plays his own victim. In another, he himself interrogates an actor who breaks down into a sobbing, miserable mess.

This cacophony of frameworks allows the viewer to reflect, observe and form judgments concerning a vast range of issues - which in turn can be the foundation for a good discussion.
